Because the Left’s motto is ‘win at any cost even if it means destroying the Republic,’ they will do anything to beg, borrow, steal — or buy power.
Along those lines, according to a new report from the Capital Research Center, investigators have discovered the existence of a mostly unknown but “massively funded” strategy firm that is promoting the interests of wealthy Leftist donors “quietly behind a hydra-like dark money network of pop-up groups designed to look like grassroots organizations.”
The groups push a number of issues including opposition to President Donald Trump’s promised border wall as well as support for keeping Obamacare in place and implementing new gun control laws. In addition, they also promote government control over the Internet and pro-abortion policies, as well as additional Left-wing causes and issues. (Related: Busted! Ocasio-Cortez and campaign manager accused of engaging in “brazen dark money scheme” by watchdog group.)
Capital Research Center notes further:
The secretive Arabella Advisors may be one of the most impactful and sophisticated leftist funding outfits that you never heard of, a centralized hub that runs nonprofit arms that in turn have spawned a nexus of hundreds of front organizations outwardly designed to appear grassroots but that evidence the common theme of more government control in the lives of Americans.
The expansive network the center uncovered documents a secretive system that was developed by Arabella Advisors. In addition, the firm staffs the for-profit operation and houses it.
In turn, the Arabella firm manages four non-profit organizations: the New Venture Fund, Sixteen Thirty Fund, Windward Fund, and Hopewell Fund. These non-profit groups host hundreds of other organizations and projects “that promote interests and political movements strategically deployed in an ongoing campaign to nudge” America to the far Left, the Center said in its report.
Combined, the firm’s non-profit groups spent $1.6 billion in lobbying efforts from 2013-2017 with the objective of advancing “the political policies desired by wealthy left-wing interests through hundreds of ‘front’ groups,” the report notes.
“And those interests pay well: The network’s revenues grew by an incredible 392 percent over the same period.” In toto, these organizations form an intertwined network of “dark money” pop-up groups that are awash in $500 million in cash.
“The real puppeteer, though, is Arabella Advisors, which has managed to largely conceal its role in coordinating so much of the professional Left’s infrastructure under a mask of ‘philanthropy,’” the report says.
The firm’s specialty are quick turnovers of hundreds of “front” groups timed to maximize the impact of current events — especially websites — and make it appear as “grassroots” Astroturf organizations that really function like an orchestrated movement aimed at forwarding the causes of Left-wing donors who remain hidden.
“At a glance, these groups — such as Save My Care and Protect Our Care — appeared to be impassioned examples of citizen activists defending ObamaCare,” according to the report. “In reality, neither ‘not-for-profit’ advocacy group appears to have paid staff, held board meetings, or even owned so much as a pen.”
As an example, a group billing itself as Demand Justice, which was founded by former members of Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 presidential bid, quickly became enmeshed in the opposition to Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination.
Before President Trump announced that Kavanaugh would be his pick, Demand Justice committed to spending roughly $5 million to oppose whomever the president selected.
Once Kavanaugh became the nominee, Demand Justice quickly set up a website to oppose him and began leading news coverage of its activism during his confirmation hearings.
“Yet what the news media missed is that Demand Justice is fiscally sponsored by the Sixteen Thirty Fund, one of Arabella’s nonprofits, as the Capital Research Center report reveals,” the center noted.
Eric Kessler founded Arabella Advisors, the center said. His bio on the firm’s website describes him as “a serial entrepreneur who has started, led, and advised organizations pursuing social change across the country and around the globe.”
What’s missing from the bio: Kessler served as a member of the Clinton Global Initiative, an arm of the controversial Clinton Foundation.
